Air Canada's Bereavement Fares Policy

We realize few people knows Air Canada's Bereavement Fares Policy, which is so nice and humane. We want to share it to everybody.

It is so sad if our loved family member who is in home town left or is leaving away from us due to illness or emergency events. What we can do is driving home right away or buying airplane fare to go back home as soon as possible. Since it is so hurry you mostly could only pay expensive money to buy airplane fares.

Air Canada provide the Bereavement Fares policy to the case of needing to fly at the last minute in the event of a death or imminent death in immediate family (check below for the concept is from Air Canada). They will reduce your cost for the fares.

What are the conditions you can apply for bereavement fares ?

1: If you are to see the last minute with the following families:

Spouse (includes common law), Child / Grand Child / Step Child, Parent / Grand Parent / In-Law, Daughter/Son/Father/Mother, Brother / Sister/ In-Law / Half, Legal Guardian or his/her spouse;

2: Flights of Air Canada / Rouge / Express;

3: If international travel, it should be round-tip and select one-way booking (hard to understand, we will have updating info about this when we contact with Air Canada)

4: If North America travel, one=way bookings;

5: Must departure within 10 days of booking;

6: If internal travel, must return within 30 days

7: Did not choose International Business Class / Premium Economy Class;

8: You have the proof that you are going to fly for a immediate family's death or imminent death (you can provide later, check more information below)

How to order bereavement fares?

We strongly recommended you order the fare by phones (call Air Canada Reservations) or buy at the airport so that you can mostly guarantee that you can get the bereavement fares. You have to provide proof also.

If you can not provide the proof when you order, you can use the way of buying the fare first and apply for refund after travel.

What are the proof needed ?

One of the following:

1: A copy of the death certificate;

2: The funeral director's statement of death;

3: A letter from the attending physician or hospital (copies are OK)

Please do not exceed 90 days of bereavement.
