Cellphone ban in Ontario classrooms

2019-11-04

2019 November 04, Cellphone ban in Ontario classrooms comes into effect today.

Ontario provincial government announced the ban earlier this year, but it has only been postponed until now due to the preparation time for the various education bureaus to implement the ban.

According to the regulations, students can only use personal mobile devices during instructional time if it's for educational purposes, for health or medical purposes, or for special needs.

The provincial government said that in the fall of 2018, 97% of parents, students and teachers believed that the use of mobile phones should be banned appropriately.
